WEST HILLS, N.Y. -- A teenager is being credited for saving his mother's life after a fiery crash on Long Island.

It happened just before noon Wednesday on Cold Spring Hills Road in West Hills in Suffolk County, N.Y.

Police said the 50-year-old woman was driving when she suffered a medical emergency and crashed into a tree.

The woman's 18-year-old son, a passenger who also suffers from a high-functioning form of autism, helped her out of the car.

At some point, the car burst into flames.

Several Good Samaritans also jumped into action.

Both the woman and her son were taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment.

The son suffered a broken wrist, while the mother is in ICU in serious condition with a number of broken bones and some minor burns.
