Police say a 29-year-old man died after being shot and then struck by a car in Philadelphia's Parkside section late Wednesday night.

PARKSIDE (WPVI) -- Police say a 29-year-old man died after being shot and then struck by a car in Philadelphia's Parkside section late Wednesday night.

It was a string events that started around 11:49 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a person with a gun on the 4200 block of Girard Avenue.

They arrived to find a man lying in the middle of the road with multiple gunshot wounds.

After being shot, police say, he collapsed and then was struck by a black Pontiac.

Police stopped the 79-year-old driver two blocks away at 40th and Girard Avenue. He was taken into custody and is being tested for DUI.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and later died. Police say he was also found with a gun and crack cocaine in his possession.

A couple driving near the scene in a Nissan say their car was struck by stray gun fire on the driver's side.

The 52-year-old driver and a passenger were not hurt.

Police are searching for the gunman.

They are hoping that the surveillance cameras in the area captured the shooting.
